“Life In The Single Lane: Finding Joy In The Journey Of Singlehood”: I authored My First Book

Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words Mark Twain

Excitement when the package finally arrives

I am writing this blog entry – with a mix of excitement, emotional bursts and contained joy because I did a thing! I authored my very first book!!!! I am supposed to be dancing up and down with joy but here I am seated looking at and through the book and prancing back and forth a short memory lane; laced with memories of what the entire process was like!!!

I’ll start with a disclaimer that I couldn’t have kicked this off and completed this piece if it weren’t for the Harvest Institute Leadership course I have undertaken and completed. It is a prerequisite for graduation and so I really had to write or else I was out!

I have always wanted to author a book – it’s been a big dream that’s consumed everything in me BUT boyyyyy is writing quite the hard calling!!!!
Well, through it all – here it is. I present to you my first authored book in all humility.

An Eight-Chapter Book

Why “Life in The Single Lane” for a topic?:
For every obvious reason and whether I’d like to sweep and hide this under the carpet; it is a contentious issue at least for persons my age to always get asked “When are you getting married?”. At first, it feels like an obligation owed to all the “stakeholders” in your life; then it begins to feel like you have let everyone down when you hit the mid-thirties with no spouse at hand and then – the “eureka” moments hit you hard much later on that you are not living for everyone but yourself (only by the Grace of God).

I’ll borrow words I used to sum this piece of literature up:

“Being single past a certain age for both men and women has – for the longest time – been frowned upon and interestingly still is to-date! There is widespread stereotyping and sometimes discrimination all absolutely unnecessary because God has carved out everyone’s destiny as their unique journey – and this includes the season of singlehood”

A very short synopsis:
In this book, I have delved into the struggles that single and unmarried persons experience; using relatable short stories by arbitrary characters (that represent everyday people). I believe the reader will relate with one of or even all the characters as they will possibly have “met them”, “experienced them” or even “been” those characters.
I have gone further and sprinkled some hope out there by elucidating on how these struggles are nothing but stepping stones to a life ahead that God has already tailored for each and every person to be beautiful in “good and perfect” timing.

What next:
I am hoping and praying with all fingers crossed that this book will speak to someone out there – someone like me – that is or has been on this journey and it possibly is still a grey area. I decided to make my singlehood journey a pleasurable one and I hope my reader can make that decision too once they have flipped till the last page of this book.
Also, I am looking forward to authoring more books; picking lessons from this very first one as I get better and better.

Purchase of this book:
I am currently still a car-boot selling merchant and will come to whoever needs a copy. I’ll even leave you a beautiful/encouraging thank you note for risking you money to purchase these my rumblings 🙂
Physical copies are at 35,000 UGX
Future sales at bookshops around town will be at 40,000 UGX

May this book bring you humour, joy, my thoughts and opinions and I hope we can connect and engage going forward.

An eye-catching cover photo and title. It carries a question I have hardly found the answer to and not sure whether at a point some will convince me that marriage has the specific age. As I continue flipping the realms of being single and maybe preparing a journey of marriage in the near future, it’s about this time someone grab such piece of writing for mind support and maybe reduce on pressure from friends and family about all this “when are you getting married?”
Thank you Komukama, how can someone access this book please!
