“When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen” Harley Davidson
Recently, there was a discussion amongst a group of people I associate with and work on a committee with. There was a contentious issue that was being discussed and decisions had to be made. Honestly, deep inside me – my gut (which I trust ever so highly) spoke out to me and told me three key things that were key and vital to this contentious issue.
However, being the kind of person that I am, I sat back and watched as my colleagues confidently fronted their ideas. I typed out my ideas (as this was an online discussion) – deleted; typed again, deleted and then only managed to send a flimsy hint of these ideas – with a disclaimer “you don’t have to agree with what I think!” and then went silent again.
One of the people then contacted me aside and said to me
“You have brilliant ideas and many times we look forward to them but you are so silent and sometimes what you manage to say gets lost in the noise. You need to learn to speak out your ideas and be confident about them”.
I am glad this friend pointed this out as it’s not the first time I’ve been told this.
I now front it to you – do you let your light shine or do you put a huge basket over your light and sit back comfortably in that state?
I am deeply drawn to and reminded of this piece of writing that speaks to all of this. Enjoy reading it and may it speak to your situation. Also, a huge thank you to my dear friend and mentor – Anthony K for reminding me of all these things.
OUR DEEPEST FEAR by Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that were are not inadequate
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us
We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are the child of God
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people wont feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Love & Peace
